Sync your vocabulary, reading history, and preferences across devices.
Improve the App's performance, fix bugs, and develop new features.
Communicate with you regarding important updates, security notices, or support requests (only if you contact us first).
4. Third-Party Services We Use
Learnews relies on the following trusted third-party services to operate. Each service has its own privacy policy that governs how they handle data:
4.1 Apple Sign in with Apple
We use Apple's Sign in with Apple service for user authentication. Apple may receive technical information related to your authentication. See Apple's Privacy Policy at https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.
4.2 Anthropic (Claude AI)
We use Anthropic's Claude AI to adapt news articles to different English proficiency levels. News article text is sent to Anthropic for processing. We do not send your personal information (such as your name, email, or vocabulary list) to Anthropic. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy at https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
4.3 NewsAPI
We retrieve news articles from NewsAPI (newsapi.org). No user data is shared with NewsAPI; we only request publicly available news content. See NewsAPI's Terms at https://newsapi.org/terms.
4.4 Wiktionary
Word definitions and translations are retrieved from Wiktionary (wiktionary.org). Only the word being looked up is sent; no user identifier is included.
4.5 Railway (Hosting)
Our backend infrastructure is hosted on Railway (railway.app), based in the United States. Your data may be stored on Railway's servers. See Railway's Privacy Policy at https://railway.com/legal/privacy.
5. AI-Generated Content Disclosure
Learnews uses artificial intelligence (Anthropic's Claude AI) to adapt news articles to different proficiency levels. This means the text you read in the App may have been modified or rewritten by AI. While we strive for accuracy, AI-generated content may occasionally contain errors. Always refer to original news sources for critical information.
6. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secure PostgreSQL databases hosted on Railway servers in the United States. We use industry-standard security measures, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), to protect your data during transmission and storage.
Some data, such as your vocabulary list and reading progress, is also cached locally on your device for offline access and faster performance. This local data is removed when you uninstall the App or delete your account.
While we take reasonable measures to protect your information, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Rights and Choices
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
Access: You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Correction: You may request that we correct any inaccurate information.
Deletion: You may delete your account and all associated data at any time directly within the App via Settings → "Delete All My Personal Data". This permanently removes your data from our servers.
Withdraw Consent: You may revoke Sign in with Apple access at any time through your Apple ID settings.
Data Portability: You may request your data in a portable format by contacting us.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at osmntmz@hotmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Account Deletion
You can delete your account at any time directly within the App:
Open the App and navigate to Profile → Settings.
Tap "Delete All My Personal Data".
Confirm the deletion when prompted.
Upon deletion, we will:
Remove all your personal data from our servers, including your saved vocabulary, reading history, and account information.
Revoke your Sign in with Apple authorization through Apple's REST API.
Clear all locally cached data on your device.
This action is permanent and cannot be undone. Once deleted, your data cannot be recovered.
9. Children's Privacy
Learnews is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at osmntmz@hotmail.com and we will delete the data immediately.
10. International Data Transfers
As a global App, your information may be transferred to, and processed in, countries outside your country of residence — including the United States (where our hosting servers are located). By using Learnews, you consent to such international data transfers. We take steps to ensure your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
11. Data Retention
We retain your personal data only for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with our services. If you delete your account, your data is removed from our servers within 30 days, except for limited information we may be required to retain by law (e.g., transaction records for tax purposes if you have made any premium purchases).
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. If the changes are significant, we will notify you through the App or by email before the changes take effect.
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we are protecting your information.
